Campaign Update - Changing the Debate
Since the beginning of this campaign, we have focused on making this race about issues – how we reform our democracy, fix our broken economic system, and put America back to work. Focusing on the issues is the only way I have ever campaigned, and it's the only way I will ever campaign.
Elizabeth and I have been crisscrossing our district -- from Cleveland to Lorain to Toledo and all the communities in between. We met with a bipartisan group to highlight our broken infrastructure and build a coalition to demand action. We traveled to Toledo to speak with friends in the Latino community, emphasizing the need to create good-paying jobs and pass the DREAM Act and a fair and compassionate immigration policy. And we met with veterans about how we can never forget their sacrifice and must meet their economic and healthcare needs. Everywhere we travel, I hear of economic pain and broad support for bold economic policies, like the NEED Act, to reverse the radical shift of wealth upwards.
We're keeping the focus where it should be in our political discourse - on the challenges facing us as a nation, and on the bold leadership we need to solve these problems. This approach has opened doors and hearts to us throughout the district. Voters have a real choice in this race, and focusing on issues is changing minds AND changing the debate.
Last week, we learned that the other candidate in this race had bought hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of television ads throughout the district. We asked for your help to respond and raise $100,000 by tonight at midnight. We're nearly 3/4 of the way there -- and I know we can get there by tonight.
There are only a few hours until our deadline and only 22 days left in this race – please donate to our campaign and help us reach this critical goal.
We came into this race with a newly drawn district and a 7:1 financial disadvantage, but I've never been more optimistic. Yard signs are on lawns in every corner of the district, new volunteers arrive in our offices every day, and our message is getting out.
Our issues-based campaign is fueling an already strong grassroots movement. We need your help to fan the flames - to ensure that we have the resources needed to put up yard signs, print literature, put ads on radio and TV, and get our message out.
Courage,
Dennis
