Monday, 26 July 2010
Cleveland, Ohio (July 24, 2010) - Congressman Dennis Kucinich speaking at the Progressive Democrats for America Conference announced that he and Congressman Ron Paul are joining in a cause focused at compelling the removal of U.S. military forces from Pakistan.
Congressman Kucinich stated, "Congressman Ron Paul and I introduced House Concurrent Resolution 301, which may be voted on this Tuesday. This is actually the first national forum that I've had a chance to discuss it. The Wall Street Journal had a story on Thursday that indicated in February, three U.S. soldiers were killed by an IED in Pakistan. The story in the Journal, talked about the United States expanding its footprint on the ground in Pakistan, with one hundred and twenty-four trainers, Special Forces, now within the borders of Pakistan. And, by and large, Americans are not really
"Congress has never debated sending troops to Pakistan. It never expressly approved of sending troops to Pakistan. The Administration has a responsibility under the War Powers Act to inform the Congress anytime that troops are sent in a direction where there can be imminent hostilities, where troops are armed for potential hostility. That wasn't done. Congressman Paul and I are bringing forth a privileged Resolution to the Floor of the House, which will probably be voted on this Tuesday, which will require the House to vote on the question of withdrawing our troops in Pakistan by the 31st of December, 2010," continued Congressman Kucinich.
Congressman Kucinich called for action, "Just as with PDA's help, we were able to force a 3-hour debate over the Afghanistan policy, we are, again going to call upon you to get the word out to others, to send out emails asking people to call their member of Congress to urge them to support House Concurrent Resolution 301."
