We did it! PDF Print E-mail

Well, we did it. We were able to get over 100,000 people to put their names on our petition, so that I could deliver it to the Speaker of the House and then have it referred to the Judiciary Committee.

Last week, I delivered the message. And in the next few weeks, I would like your help to deliver an even more powerful message. And that message is that we are not going to step back, simply because an election is approaching.

We're not going to step back and let this president escape accountability. We're going to demand that the Congress follow up on its obligation to uphold the Constitution by investigating the misconduct of this president.

Just recently, we've learned - again - that the White House was involved in trying to cook the books at the CIA to try to create a phony link between Al Quaida and Saddam Hussein with forgery, again.

We cannot let this pass. We cannot let it slide. We cannot stand by and watch the destruction of our Constitution, even as this president is on his way out the door. There has to be accountability.

Which is why this effort is continuing. Make no mistake about it. The effort towards accountability is not going to cease as we approach an election; it is not going to stop once the election is over; and it's not going to stop when a new president is sworn in.

The Bush Administration must be held accountable for the crimes that they have committed. For the destruction of our Constitution and for putting the whole world on the edge.

And this is the moment that I need your help. So before Congress goes back in September, I would like you to help me get one more person to sign that impeachment petition. One more person - whether it's somebody in your family, your friend, let's reach out; let's expand this effort; let's show Congress that there is a wave that keeps moving, forward and forward. A wave that is going to sweep us toward a new condition in government of accountability to our Constitution; the restoration of our Constitution.

That's really what this is about. It's about the American restoration. Of civil liberties, of the law, of commitment to international law, of commitment to the Constitutional principles which brought us together as a nation.

You have been such an important part of all our efforts. You made it possible for me to take the stands that I've taken, without fear or favor, and a willingness to keep on keeping on; because of you.

So let's, in the next few weeks, keep growing. Bring me one more person to that impeachment petition. Pass the word, and tell people, "Go to Kucinich.us; sign the petition." Because every time we put our name on the line, we're also underscoring our belief in what's good about America.

Thank you very much, and we'll talk again soon.
