We should pay careful attention to the message of the Massachusetts election. And that message is to focus on the economy. To make sure that we have jobs programs that can put millions of people back to work. To make sure that we have programs to help those one-out-of-every-three Americans, who is upside down on their mortgages, to save their homes. To make sure we protect people's investments, their savings and their retirement security.

Jobs first ... then health care ... the economy must work for all people not just a few.

Washington D.C. (January 22, 2010) - Congressman Dennis Kucinich (D-OH), Chairman of the Domestic Policy Subcommittee, today sent a letter to Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner criticizing proposed changes, as reported by the New York Times, to the Home Affordable Modification Program (HAMP). The New York Times article indicates that Treasury will make changes in an effort to streamline paperwork.

Forty-seven million Americans are without health insurance. Why? Because they can't afford it.

And what's Washington's solution? Require people to buy private insurance with the government providing a subsidy to the health insurance companies.

What a pathetic state of affairs that our national government cannot respond to the needs of the people and must first respond to the needs of Wall Street and the health insurance industry and their stock prices.

I am going to continue to fight for single-payer. And I'm going to continue to try to get in the final legislation a provision which will protect the rights of states to be able to move forward with single-payer health care plans of their own.

January 13, 2010 - Congressman Dennis Kucinich, who is Chair of the House Domestic Policy Subcommittee, announced on Wednesday, January 13th, that "the Securities and Exchange Commission's (SEC) decision to file charges against Bank of America (BofA) for its failure to disclose mounting losses at Merrill Lynch was a response to finding made during the Kucinich subcommittee's 9-month investigation of the merger."
